Starting Point

The collection of tools provided here have been designed from experience that has been undertaken from like-minded artists who also have suffered infringements on their work.

You can also try going to some of the Blacklisted Sites section and searching them. Some sellers even retain the original artwork title when using art. So, simply type your artwork title and see if you can find.

Assuming you have found an example of an infringement, the next steps are what you need to do to take the artwork down. It must be pointed out that there is NO guarantee, but the methods used here, are some of the typically strong ways to get ISP, Companies and Websites to take art off the web.

So, if you wish to continue, simply have the following ready:

  • Name of the Website
  • Link to the Infringing Page
  • Link to YOUR original artwork page.

Stage Two - Gathering Names

The next stage of the process is finding out who the best people are to send a DMCA to. In many cases it has occurred that sending them directly to the site owner isn’t enough. If they know they are using infringed material or selling counterfeit items and they are not a large respected company like Amazon, Alibaba, etc. Then they will tend to ignore the DMCA. Also, many sites like blogs tend to ignore these calls as it’s hassle for them (yes I did say that) to replace or even find the item and remove.

So, what the next stage is, is to do a WhoIs search. This enables you to check their LookUp Record. That way you can find the list of details that will include, the Registrar Name, Registrant Name and Admin and their corresponding emails. We have incorporated this into the site in two ways. One is an easy to use WhoIs search, found here! The second is explained at the footer of the WhoIs, just in case that is not successful.

So, the best plan is to open TextEdit or Notepad and copy/paste the information. You don’t need all the iCann Registration Raw Data, only the items mentioned above. You are ready to move to the next step.

Stage Three - Picking the right method
